Manuele Fior Golden Romics of the 30th edition

The art of Graphic Novel. Ineffable poetry, a dip into color and form.

Manuele Fior, an international artist, is one of the most appreciated designers in Italy and abroad, will be awarded the Gold Romics during the XXX edition of Romics scheduled from March 30 to April 2, 2023 at Fiera Roma.

Manuele Fior was born in Cesena in 1975. He graduated in architecture in Venice in 2000 and then   moved to Berlin, where he worked as an architect and illustrator. In 2001 he began working with the publisher Avant-Verlag. In 2005 he moved to Oslo and then later to Paris and Venice. He produced several short stories, which appeared in the magazines Black, Bile Noire, Stripburger, Forresten, Osmosa. With his illustrations he collaborates with major magazines such as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, for newspapers such as la Repubblica, Le Monde and Il Sole 24 Ore, and publishers such as Feltrinelli, Einaudi, EL. In 2017 he collected and commented on his illustrations in The Hour of Mirages, published by Oblomov Edizioni.

In 2011 with the graphic novel Five thousand kilometers per second, published in 2010 with Coconino Press, he won the Fauve d'Or award for Best Album at the Angoulême International Festival. His work The Interview, published with Coconino Press in 2013 and with Oblomov in 2019, marks his debut in black and white. In 2015 he also published Le variazioni d’Orsay with the publishing house Coconino Press; in 2016, the collection of short stories I giorni della merla and in 2009, the illustrated story, La signorina Else, based on the novel by Arthur Schnitzler. In 2006 he published Rosso Oltremare again for Coconino Press.

Manuele Fior, in 2020, published with Oblomov editions Celestia, a work in which he revisits the origins of Venice in a sci-fi key through the story of two boys fleeing from themselves, from their fears, in search of their role in an era of great changes.

His latest graphic novel is Hypericon, released in 2022 for Coconino Press, in which he returns to recount the vibrations of youth, the anxieties of the heart, the strongest bonds of the passage of time. The wonderful love story between Ruben and Teresa, in late nineties Berlin, alternates with that of Howard Carter who, in general skepticism, in 1922 brings to light the tomb of Tutankhamen wrapped in darkness for over three thousand years.
Manuele Fior will be the protagonist in Romics of a celebratory meeting that will retrace his artistic path and an exhibition dedicated to his work.

The presence of Manuel Fior is made possible by the collaboration with the publishing house Coconino Press.
